Navigating Metro Manila's Holy Week Road Works

As Holy Week approaches, many Filipinos are gearing up for their annual religious observances and family gatherings. However, for those planning to travel within Metro Manila, navigating the roads may prove to be a bit challenging due to scheduled 24-hour road works on major thoroughfares.

According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and a telecommunications firm will be taking advantage of the summer break to conduct these road works. Beginning on Holy Wednesday (March 27) at 11 pm and continuing round-the-clock until Monday (April 1) at 5 am, these road works aim to improve infrastructure while traffic volume is expected to be relatively lower.

Here are the areas where road works will be undertaken:

  1. Batasan-Commonwealth Tunnel, Filinvest 1 Road to fronting Sandigan (1st lane from plantbox, Quezon City)
  2. West Avenue, Ligaya St. to Del Monte Avenue (1st lane from sidewalk), Quezon City
  3. Luzon Avenue SB, Congressional Avenue Ext. to before Luzon Flyover (1st lane from center), Quezon City
  4. Commonwealth Avenue, Landbank to Elliptical Road (3rd lane from sidewalk), Quezon City
  5. Mindanao Avenue, Tandang Sora Avenue to Longines St. (truck lane), Quezon City
  6. Mindanao Avenue Tunnel to Sauyo Road (truck lane), Quezon City

  11. Roxas Boulevard NB, between Lourdes St. & Vicente Sotto St., Pasay City
  12. Roxas Boulevard NB, between Remedios St. & Pasaje Del Carmen St., Pasay City
  13. Roxas. Boulevard EDSA Flyover SB bridge approach (outer lane & inner lane), Pasay City

To minimize disruptions and inconvenience to motorists, it is advisable to take alternate routes. The affected roads will be fully passable by 5 a.m. on Monday (April 1).

MMDA Acting Chairman, Atty. Don Artes emphasized the importance of conducting these road works during the Holy Week break, citing the fewer vehicles on the road during this period. "The clearance for the 24-hour road works aims to strike a balance between maintaining infrastructure and minimizing disruptions and inconvenience to motorists after the significantly religious holidays," he said.

For those planning to travel within Metro Manila during this period, staying informed about the road works and planning alternate routes ahead of time can help ensure a smoother journey. As always, vigilance and patience are key when navigating roadwork and heavy traffic.
